nAble Lite

nAble Lite EHR for the iPhone is a concept app designed to allow physicians to document patient visits and create treatment plans on the fly, without having to resort to heavy hardware.

nAble Lite started as conceptual app that would serve as a smart and fresh redesign of our iPad EMR, which was originally designed before I joined the team. Our mobile EMR was intended to be capable of full documentation during an exam with patients, with every feature available on our web reflected in the UI.

Goals:

  • Develop a light and readable responsive user interface that works as well on the small iPhone 5 all the way up to the iPad
  • Clear iconography with a simple menu that covers key functions
  • Testing novel workflow concepts to apply to our other products

UX/UI Design

When I joined the team, I did some badly needed user testing and found that users simply didn’t have the time for full documentation during patient visits. Realistically, they were taking a few brief notes then fully typing their treatment plans in between visits on laptops, and that was the workflow they preferred. nAble Lite is way to facilitate that: we provide the basic tools they need to plan treatments, make orders and prescribe in a quick and natural interface.

I decided to go for a bold and clear color scheme to aid reading on the iPhone. Its blue headings tied back to the blue of our web software and I plenty of whitespace to separate out important entries.

Results

The prototype has currently been approved by apple and we are testing it with new users. So far, response has been positive! It’s “fast” and “intuitive” and is one more unique tool our product has over competitors.
